AIMA Charging 400€ To Speedy Residency

Portugal । The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) requested immigrants with pending authorization processes to pay fees of up to 400 euros within 10 days to expedite their requests.

This action was based on a regulatory decree from January 17, 2024, approved by the previous government. The current government, upon learning of this measure, plans to present a different response integrated into an upcoming action plan. While AIMA aimed to accelerate processing, the sudden imposition of fees on thousands of people, many in vulnerable situations, raised concerns about fairness and potential economic hardship.

The government intends to address the pending issues effectively and fairly, considering the social impact.

Antena 1 reported concerns among affected individuals, some fearing a computer scam. Despite criticism, the AIMA workers’ union believes the measure could help resolve pending processes, especially for immigrants no longer residing in Portugal.
